Google+ Local Wizard FAQ
Frequently asked questions:
What is Google+ Local?
Google+ Local (formerly known as Google Places) is Google’s local directory. It includes millions of local sites, landmarks, buildings and (importantly) businesses. With millions of internet searchers using Google each day to find local information and businesses, it’s essential for any local business to have a listing (aka a ‘Profile’) on Google+ Local.
Google often displays listings from Google+ Local in it’s main search results so if you don’t have a listing your business could be missing out on new customers.
What is Google+ Local Wizard?
Google+ Local Wizard Report is an SEO tool that lets you quickly assess the status of your Google+ Local profile and how it compares to your top online competitors.
How does Google+ Local Wizard work?
The report works by comparing the details of your Google+ Local profile against top 10 local competitors. It compares a number of important ‘Local SEO’ factors (e.g. citations) as well as content on your profiles such as number of reviews, review ‘Score’, photos and categories selected.
The report presents this information in an easy to read table so you can quickly compare your business to competitors and see what you need to do to outrank them.
What countries does Google+ Local Wizard work in?
Google+ Local currently works in the USA, UK, Canada & Australia. We will roll it out to other countries as we extend our toolset, but we cannot confirm the date of when this will happen.
How many search terms does the report track at one time?
You can enter a maximum 5 search terms and we take the 5 primary keywords from the data you provide us.
Can I use Google+ Local Wizard if my business does NOT have a listing on Google+ Local?
Yes, you can. When we create your report we can configure it to return just competitor info.
Can I compare my Google+ Local profile to other businesses?
Yes, you can. We return results for the top 10 local businesses for any search term.
How do you select the top 10 businesses to compare against?
We take these straight from Google+ Local. We do a search look-up using the search terms you enter and then return details for the top 10 results.
Why do you set a Search Location?
Google displays results based on your search location. So people from Los Angeles get different results from people in Dallas. What if your customer is from a different city or even country and you want to see exactly what he/she sees? That is what Search Location does – it emulates the location so that you would get most accurate results for your target location.
Analysing Data in Reports - Glossary of terms:
What are citations – these are listings for a business on a local directory. A ‘Citation’ typically includes a business’ Name, Address & Phone Number
What are backlinks – these are clickable links from 1 website back to a business’ website
What is domain authority – this is similar to ‘Page Rank’ and is a measure of a website’s SEO score
How is ‘Score’ calculated – this is Google’s proprietary score for a local business. It is based on the reviews a business has on Google+ Local. The more positive the reviews and sentiment towards a business the higher the score. Max score = 30
Why are ‘Categories’ so important in Google+ Local performance?
Selecting the correct & best categories for your business is a crucial factor in Google+ SEO. We show you which categories the top ranked competitors use so you can confirm or optimise your category selection.
Why does the ‘Reviews’ column show 2 numbers (e.g. 5 (12)?
Google+ Local reports on 2 types of reviews.
– Reviews posted directly on google – number outside of the brackets
– Reviews posted on other directory sites (the number inside the brackets – aggregate review count from multiple directories)
